We all want to stay away from frustrations when we are designing our perfect home, but that is not always easy to do without proper planning and knowing some things to avoid to help keep our heads on straight and our vision clear. Here are our suggestions to make your interior design project go as smoothly as possible.
1 - Don’t match too much and don’t match too little It’s easy to pick your furniture to be all the same styles and colors, but you don’t want to make your rooms look like a store display. Having some matching pieces is great but you want to stay away from keeping the same look throughout the house. You definitely want a little variety in your choices to keep it looking fresh. On the flip side, you don’t want to have too many different patterns and styles. The more differences you have, the more they will end up competing with each other and will start to take away from your creative vision. So try to find a happy matching medium and let your creativity shine! 2 – Leave some wall space open Believe it or not, rooms can look more spacious when the furniture is NOT pushed all the way up against the walls. If you have the space to do it, place your furniture creatively around the room and see how nice it can feel to be able to navigate the room in different ways. It will also set the room up for some great entertaining! 3 – Don’t just look good, be comfortable! We all want our room to look fantastic, but don’t forget that it needs to be able to be lived in with comfort and ease. It won’t matter if it looks great if you can’t sit comfortably and have a table to put your drinks and things. So make sure to consider how cozy and practical your pieces are going to be for you and your guests when deciding what to buy. Your guests will appreciate feeling like they are at home in your home. 4 – Don’t paint yourself into a corner The options for decorating your walls and choosing paint color are endless. But if you commit to your wall color and décor too early, you will have a harder time picking the right furniture pieces to match the room. It would be a shame to find that perfect couch only to have it clash with the walls. So be patient and let your paint and decor accentuate your furniture for that perfect look. 5 – Let there be the right light Lighting can make or break a room. Make sure the natural lighting you have coming in is supplemented effectively with your ceiling lights and other lighting. It is important to consider the height of the ceiling lights and how it will coexist with any lamps or table-top lighting to make the light levels versatile and vibrant. Comments are closed.
